Ihated the controls too so I changed dodge from "alt" to "ctrl" instead, walk from "ctrl" to "alt", and healt from "H" to "caps lock". These work well for me now, hope it helps. Sadly I am unable to use both alt and ctrl precisely due to my little fingers "snapping" when I bend them over a certain point.
Tofix this either download the mod file, extract the "ACU.ini" file, and paste it into the "documents/Assassin's Creed Unity". or you can manually change the as shown in the picture above. Change highlighted values as shown. whatever values you have on your file, change them to the values of pictures above.

I would suggest trying to change the controller schemes inside of Steams settings, first, select no config profile and test this in-game. Should this not work, please
1 You don't need x360ce if you have xInput. 2) As always, on pc, you have to go to settings > controller/controls. 1) actually, you still need x360ce for XInput controllers, otherwise the buttons mappings will be all wrong. I mean, the buttons will be shown as "Button #", like in a generic controller, instead of Xbox controller buttons icons.
